PimpMyPod Classic is a video converter for iPod music players (the name of the application is quite misleading, I agree). PimpMyPod allows you to convert the media files that you have on your computer so that they can be played on the iPod; and the files that you have on the iPod to formats that are more fitting for computer playback. So it is a sort of two-way converter.
The application consists of a single window with two tabs: one for conversion to and another for conversion from iPod. The first one allows you to convert any supported file to one of the three iPod profiles. They only differ in resolution at which the output files will be playable. There is a tiny, a standard, and a big profile. The big one outputs a resolution of 640x480. Now, no iPod plays video files at that resolution natively. And when this application was released there were no iPhones or iPod Touch available. So, I am taking it the iPods that will work best with this converter are the iPods 5G, which can play video somewhat smoothly.
The conversion from iPod video allows you to convert to an array of formats. Most of them are popular video formats, but are mislabeled within the application. There is also support for FLV conversion. No additional configuration can be done about how PimpMyPod works or the quality of its conversions. |
